They Were Wrong

lost and confused
they said I was
a rebel with out a cause
worn out and used
a broken heart
a lost soul
not knowing her worth
she sold it all
they said there was no hope
there was no faith in me
the word “nothing”
is what i would turn out to be
no life, no future
not worth a dime
once again, yes this was me
used by men
consumed by alcohol
dwelling in drugs
searching for fulfillment
a fulfillment of love
this was me......once.
but one day the sun rose
love and forgiveness washed my soul
i saw a bright light
making me strong
making me whole
now I can say,
“they were wrong”
